The Domaine
The domaine of the Château des Bois is one of the rare wine Châteaux in the Republic and Canton of Geneva. Situated 20 minutes from the centre of Geneva and just 10 minutes from the airport, in the commune of Satigny, our vineyards are on the hillsides of Bourdigny and Peney with superb exposure to the south and south-west giving excellent sunshine hours.
Most of our vines are within the boundary of the Premier Cru AOC which gives proof of quality. On the 115 hectares which make up the domaine, 4.2 hectares are planted with vines. There are nine different varieties – four white and five red. They are planted at a density of 8,500 to 9,000 vines per hectare and are Guyot trained. All of our domaine is worked with great care following the Swiss standards with respect for the environment (sustainable production).

The wines of Château des Bois
This traditional variety has largely given way to new varieties planted during the last ten years. Nevertheless, Chasselas still occupies one-seventh of the vineyard and starts the range of Château des Bois wines.

This pair of Chardonnays is made in two different styles, one matured in stainless steel and the other in oak barrels, justifying their different labels and prices.

This speciality variety exists thanks to the vineyard replanting and provides an aromatic, dry white wine. Since 2006, part of the Pinot Gris harvest has been used to make sparkling wine.

We use this label for a Sauvignon Blanc which, like the previous two wines, meets the criteria to be labelled Premier Cru.

Using the best bunches of Sauvignon Blanc, Matthias Jäger ages this dessert wine for ten months in oak. The 500 bottles of this wine are never enough to satisfy demand.

Planted in more than a quarter of the vineyard, this symbolic variety of the Geneva wine region maintains its predominant place in the domaine. Pleasantly fruity, it is made into red as well as rosé wines.

Another classic of Swiss vineyards, this provides the link between the everyday Gamay and the prestige blends.

This blend of Gamaret and Cabernet Sauvignon might claim to be the most distinctive wine of our cellar. The 2000 vintage received several plaudits at the Sélections des Vins de Genève competition as well as a Silver medal at the Vinalies de Paris.

The average yield is between 30 and 45 hl/ha, depending on the appellations and the vintage. Every year about 500hl is produced in total, making about 30'000 to 35'000 thousand bottles.

Practical Information
With the exception of the Bois d’Emilie, only bottled as available and required, all of the wines are available in 50cl and 75cl bottles. Larger sizes, from Magnum to Nebuchadnezzar, can also be ordered.

The domaine has a Carnotzet (traditional name in Swiss for a room located next to the cellar) and a Cellar for tastings, as well as several rooms which can be hired for events. For further details about these rooms can be found under "Room Hire".
